VOLUNTEER
WITH THE
FORT MCMURRAY SPCA

The act of volunteering is a selfless one, allowing us to gain new skills, new friends, and a new perspective. It has been said that volunteering is not for the faint of heart. It requires dedication, reliability, learning and commitment. When you volunteer, you give part of yourself, your time, your energy and your skills. It can be a onetime event or become a lifetime activity.

At the Fort McMurray SPCA, we believe that each volunteer who helps at the shelter, fostering, fundraising, transporting, walking dogs, as a corporate group and the myriad of other jobs we need done, makes a huge difference in the life of our rescued animals. Our volunteers spend thousands of hours a year helping to maintain operations so that we can continue to help more needy and homeless animals. In 2015, we saw our amazing volunteers log over 3700 hours! We could not do what we do without the hundreds of people who volunteer – whether you volunteer an hour a week or three hours a day, at an event or with your company, everyone is needed.

Volunteer Opportunities

All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older or must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Some volunteer opportunities, such as dog walking are currently only open to those 18 and over.

If you are under the age of 18 host a Pawsitive Partner event or download the ResQWalk App from the App store and raise funds by just going for a walk!

For information on group or business volunteering, please email us at info@fortmcmurrayspca.ca

  • Every year the FMSPCA hosts an annual Bike Auction and our ‘handy man’ volunteers like Doug help get them in tip top shape before auction.

Raffle sales, draws, setup and organizing our annual Community Yard Sale is done by a large volunteer crew who spends the weekend helping us raise essential funding. Thanks Leslie and Elaine for helping out!

  • We love to keep our FMSPCA Dog Park looking great for our members as well as our shelter dogs who enjoy playing outside! Grass cutting, weed pulling and cleanup are always appreciated!

On any given week at the shelter there are lots of chores that need to be done – in this photo Nicole helped us to organize bags of pet food for our community support.
