June events bring much needed funds to shelter

June 2019 was a very busy month for the Fort McMurray SPCA (FMSPCA), as we hosted 3 major events. The month kicked off with our 3rd Annual Winky Day Celebration, leading into our 2nd Annual Locked in a Kennel event hosted by Earls, culminating with our 1st Annual Puttin’ Fore Paws Golf Tournament Presented by Ottlie Munro & Heather Gartner of Coldwell Banker Fort McMurray.
All three of these events were a resounding success as they each brought much needed funds and awareness of the work of the FMSPCA to the public in unique ways.

  1. 3rd Annual Winky Day: this event featured the annual Winky Rides/ Greb Glides memorial Ride and a family fun day at the FMSPCA with doggy contests, vendors, and a BBQ by the Kinsmen all in memory of local Canine Celebrity Winky. This year’s event raised over $4500 bringing the Winky Rides/Greb Glides total to over $116,000.
  2. 2nd Annual Locked in a Kennel Presented by Earls in partnership with Country 93.3 and Rock 97.9 was well attended and a fun evening as we watched local celebrities get locked behind custom made kennel gates in the booths in Fuel by Earls, representing animals currently in shelter. Each animal having to raise an amount of money based on the cost of such an animals stay in our shelter to be released. This event proudly raised over $11,000 and helped to educate the community on the cost of caring for the animals we see.
  3. 1st Annual Puttin’ Fore Paws presented by Ottlie Munro & Heather Gartner of Coldwell Banker Fort McMurray and promoted by Country 93.3 and Rock 97.9 was an absolute success with 108 golfers and the weather holding out till all the golfers were done their round we can’t wait for 2020. This tournament featured animals throughout the course, which we would like to thank the Fort McMurray Golf Club for their support and allowance of these animals on the course. This event raised over $2500, and more importantly brought new friends to our table and awareness to the animals in our care and what it takes to care for them.
“We couldn’t be happier with the success of these events and the exposure they have brought to our cause.” Arianna Johnson Executive Director continues, “It is only with the attendance of people at these events that we are able to ensure all animals in our region get the care they need when they arrive at our doors. With every new and continuing event we build more knowledge and friends for our organization and we are so grateful for their support.”
