The 2017 CFHS National Animal Welfare Conference took place at the Westin Ottawa April 8-11, 2017. On Sunday, April 9, CFHS held its 60th Anniversary Awards Gala at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa to celebrate the animal heroes that dedicate their lives to creating a more humane Canada. They presented individuals and organizations from across Canada with CFHS Animal Welfare Leadership and Innovation Awards for their work in public engagement, corporate social responsibility, farm animal welfare, humane legislation and cooperation in emergency response during the Fort McMurray animal rescue efforts.
“The Fort McMurray SPCA was honoured to be recognized within the group of organizations who came together to save lives and make a difference,” said Tara Clarke, executive director FMSPCA.
Clarke also spoke on a panel during the conference regarding the challenges and lessons learned from the perspective of the shelter organization’s role during the pet rescue efforts.
